China Found Herbal Medicine Againt AIDS

According to China Daily, China began to provide AIDS patients with herbal medicine free therapy in a pilot project conducted on 2300 patients in five provinces in 2004. In October, the project has expanded to 19 provinces.

Herbal therapy is usually applied to keep the immune system as a companion antiretroviral therapy or for patients who suffer side effects from therapy.

Biological indicator for this is CD4, a type of cell in the immune system. When the CD4 count reaches 350 per cubic millimeter or less, patients will require antiretroviral therapy.

According to Wang Jian, Chinese herbal medicine works in a different way from Western standard treatment. Antiretroviral therapy to block viral replication, but the Chinese herbal therapy increases the person's immunity.
